Why Nihongo Center
Most Japanese language schools in Japan draw 80–90% of their students from East and Southeast Asia. At Nihongo Center, 35% of students are Western — French, German, Australian, American, Brazilian. No single nationality forms a majority. The classroom dynamic is structurally different, and so is the city: Kyoto costs less than Tokyo, moves slower, and has a cultural density that Tokyo simply doesn’t match.
🌍 A Classroom Where Japanese Is the Only Option
With students from 27 countries and no nationality forming a majority, you cannot rely on a shared language. French students cannot cluster with French students. German students cannot fall back on English. Japanese becomes necessary from day one — which is exactly the point.
🏛 Kyoto, Not Tokyo
Kyoto has 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites, lower living costs than Tokyo (¥80K–¥120K/month total), and a pace that supports genuine immersion. The school’s Discover Kyoto Program — included in all tuition packages — gives students direct exposure to traditional culture conducted in Japanese.
The Program at a Glance
Intensive Japanese for adults, absolute beginners welcome. The 2-year program is structured to reach JLPT N2 — the level required to work or study in Japan.
How It Works
From first contact to arriving in Kyoto — the school handles the administrative side.

▸ Can I stay for just one year?
A 1-year stay is possible. However, Nihongo Center only issues a formal certificate of completion to students who either finish the full 2-year program or reach JLPT N2 (B2-equivalent) upon departure. Students who leave after one year receive a certificate of attendance, not completion. Year 1 and year 2 are billed separately (¥1,076,800 for year 1).
