Your Bridge to Japan,
Built on 47 Years of Trust

Welcome to Nihongo Center. We do more than teach a language – we build a global community, foster real communication, and help students from around the world write their next chapter in Kyoto.

Nihongo Center — Key Facts

Nihongo Center is a full-time Japanese language school in Kyoto, founded in 1979 and accredited by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It is authorized by the Osaka Regional Immigration Bureau to submit Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) applications on behalf of student visa applicants — which means the school, not the student, handles all paperwork with Japanese Immigration.

No nationality forms a majority — Japanese is the only shared language in the classroom.

With 131 students from 27 countries and no dominant nationality group (35% Western, 65% Asian), English is not a fallback option. This structural diversity is intentional — it forces genuine Japanese immersion from the first week.

Who Studies at Nihongo Center?

Nihongo Center is not a school for everyone — and that is by design. The full-time intensive program (20 hours/week, year-round) is built for adults who are serious about reaching functional fluency in Japanese within two years.

The Career Changer

A professional in their late 20s or 30s — engineer, designer, teacher, marketer — who wants to work in Japan. They need JLPT N2 and a professional vocabulary before applying. Two years at NC gets them there.

The University Applicant

A graduate who wants to pursue a Japanese master’s degree or vocational qualification. They need language proficiency plus EJU preparation. Nihongo Center’s higher education track covers both.

The Committed Learner

Someone who has studied Japanese independently and wants structured, accredited progress. They know why they want to live in Japan — they need the visa pathway and the fluency to make it real.

What these profiles share: a clear goal, a willingness to commit to full-time study, and an understanding that real fluency in Japanese — a language with three writing systems and complex grammar — requires dedicated time. The October 2026 (1.5-year) and April 2027 (2-year) intakes are now open.
